The Captain
Lee Johnson, a native of Wanchese, NC, is a third-generation charter boat captain with over 30 years of fishing experience out of Oregon Inlet Fishing Center. Lee's passion for fishing was ignited in early childhood fishing the docks of Wanchese and spending many long days on the water with his grandfather. Following in his father's footsteps, Lee spent 16 years as an offshore mate both out of Oregon Inlet Fishing Center and out of the country during the winter months, working with many outstanding captains such as Harry Baum, Paul Spencer, Dean Johnson, Arch Bracher, Billy Maxwell, and Barry Sawyer. His love of freshwater, saltwater, inshore, and offshore fishing has been an integral part of his life. Fishing has taken him to the waters of Venezuela, Mexico, St. Thomas, the Caribbean, Florida, and Texas where his expertise and skill helped to win or place in several tournaments. Lee looks forward to sharing his passion, knowledge, and experience with you.

Lisa J Charters (previously Gouger Charters) specializes in top quality, light tackle, live bait fishing in the waters off the beautiful Outer Banks of North Carolina. We offer half day and full day inshore and near shore fishing in the sound, inlet, and ocean while staying close to shore. Lisa J Charters offer a customized fishing experience for the veteran angler or a fun-filled family day. Captain Lee will tailor your trip for you and your party and do his best to make sure all enjoy a great day of hands-on, personalized fishing for all skill levels of anglers. The Lisa J operates out of the renowned Oregon Inlet Fishing Center, located on Highway 12 just before the Basnight Bridge.
We target a variety of inshore and near shore species: Amberjack, Cobia, Flounder, King Mackeral, Redfish (puppy drum), Sharks, Spanish Mackeral, Speckled/Gray Trout, Striped Bass (rockfish), as well as others depending on seasonal availability as fishing varies with the type of trip and time of year. Charters are available for 4 people and anyone on the boat counts towards the total.

All bait, tackle, rods, licenses, and ice are included in your fishing trip.

We use inshore, light tackle; however, you are welcome to bring your favorite rod.

What you need: drinks, food, hat, sunscreen and anything to make you comfortable for the day. Our motto: "better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it!"

Lifejackets are available upon request; you may also bring your own.

Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.

Alcohol is allowed in moderation.

Captain will not fish in dangerous conditions, trip cancellation is determined by the captain and he will discuss weather and options with you.

The Boat
The Lisa J is a 34-foot custom-designed open boat by Irving Forbes, Steve Matthews, and Lee Johnson and constructed by Captain Lee Johnson himself. With an 11-foot beam, she provides a smooth, dry ride out to the fishing grounds. A 420 Cummins diesel engine powers the Lisa J which gives her a top speed of 31 knots. The Lisa J was remodeled in 2021 with a house that offers shelter from the elements. (new pics coming soon) She is equipped with state of the art full navigation/communications electronic system, including a USB port, radar, a trolling valve, a bow thruster, and an 80-gallon live well.
